This Sunday, The Poets Corner presents a reading from The Nature of Our Times, an anthology born from Poets for Science, gathering voices across art, ecology, and Indigenous knowledge. These poets give witness to how nature shapes us and how, in turn, we shape what remains.

In a time that calls for attention and care, poetry offers a way of seeing more clearly, of remembering our place within something larger.

A free online reading
Sunday, April 12
4:00 to 5:30 PM ET

Victor Frankl, a philosopher, psychotherapist and Holocaust survivor, asserted that the pursuit of meaning, rather than happiness, was the key to living well, and he upheld this principle even in the concentration camps. Let us strive, then, to offer our light despite the pain of burning.

An ode to the future (not without its wistfulness!), this poem blesses what is ever-renewable: our love for the young—and for the winged seeds of maple trees.

In this interview, the interviewee speaks first and listens for our questions only at the end, knowing what they are better than we do. Spring happens whether we are ready or not — like birth, like death, like jubilation that will not be postponed.

When we are attuned, nature is our teacher: at times subtle; at times brazen. From her we learn the bitter lesson of how to release what we’d prefer to keep.

The way sailors navigate by starlight, poets and writers navigate by love. Marguerite Porete, a medieval French mystic, wrote The Mirror of Simple Souls, a book of mingled poetry and prose in which she claimed that one could know God without the intermediary of organized religion. She was burned at the stake and would not recant to save her life.

The poem’s unvarnished diction conveys the speaker’s vulnerability. It is this vulnerability, as the poet wisely reminds us, that distinguishes honest spiritual labor from a lofty, empty idea.

Randall’s poem is imbued with femininity and ferocity; it speaks to a type of resistance that’s more love than anger; more glove than fist.

This listicle poem reads like a biblical verse. The word “remember” calls us out of the prison of the present (which sometimes feels like heaven!) and into a deeper sense of belonging.
